By Rafiq Latta in Khurais and Jiddah Saudi Arabia on 23 June emphatically denied recent reports that key increments in its program to increase crude oil production capacity to 12.5mn b/d are badly behind schedule. Senior upstream executives from state-owned Saudi AramcoSaudi Aramco gave a series of presentations at the 1.2mn b/d Khurais field, which the Kingdom is touting as the biggest single capacity increment to come on-stream in oil industry history. The Khurais progress report came the day after the Kingdom hosted an emergency oil summit in Jiddah (see page 3), and was followed two days later by the announcement by the interior ministry that it had arrested over 700 Islamic militants since last January for plotting attacks on Saudi oil installations.
