LYSIANE GAGNON From Monday's Globe and Mail When the polls started to show a spectacular rise in the popularity of Jean Charest and his Quebec Liberal Party, all card-carrying Liberals were understandably happy. Except one: Health minister Philippe Couillard, who had set his eyes for a long time on the Premier's chair, realized that his chances of replacing a man who now enjoys unprecedented support were nil. So, last week, the former neurosurgeon quit politics. Even though Dr. Couillard was arguably the most respected member of the Charest cabinet, the announcement of his departure hardly raised an eyebrow. Four hours later, Mr. Charest was introducing his replacement – Yves Bolduc, a physician known for his expertise in hospital management.
