Convention to stay in Reno

BY RAY HAGAR • rhagar@rgj.com • June 27, 2008 Safari Club International's Annual Hunters' Convention, perhaps the most lucrative of all conventions in the Reno-Tahoe area, will remain in Reno through 2011, according to officials from the Reno-Sparks Convention & Visitors Authority. The annual convention, which has an economic impact of more than $31 million because of room nights, restaurant spending and other factors, could leave Reno after that if the Reno-Tahoe Convention Center does not expand significantly and if the load factor at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport does not improve, Safari Club officials said. The Safari Club needs the convention center to expand by 150,000 square feet to remain in Reno past 2011, officials said.
