European Parliament approves Commission reshuffle

The European Parliament on Wednesday approved the change of portfolio for European Commission Vice President Jacques Barrot and the appointment of a new commissioner. Barrot, who was in charge of the transport portfolio, is taking over responsibility for freedom, security and justice. The justice portfolio was held by Franco Frattini, who left the commission to take up the post of Italian foreign minister. Italy nominated Antonio Tajani as replacement for Frattini.
