Ana Ivanović reigns in Paris

PARIS -- Ana Ivanović is the new French Open champion, having beaten Russian Dinara Safina in straight sets (6:4, 6:3) Ivanović, who lost in last year's final to Justine Henin, was playing in her third Grand Slam final, after defeating fellow countrywoman Jelena Janković in a thrilling semi final 2-1 (6-4, 3-6, 6-4). Safina, by contrast, swept aside fellow Russian and world no.2 Svetlana Kuznetsova 2-0 (6-3, 6-2) in her semi, and had the opportunity to step out of the shadow of her more acclaimed elder brother, Marat, as she competed in her first Grand Slam final.
