Ana Ivanović reigns in Paris

PARIS -- Ana Ivanović is the new French Open champion, having beaten Russian Dinara Safina in straight sets (6:4, 6:3) Ivanović, who lost in last year's final to Justine Henin, was playing in her third Grand Slam final, after defeating fellow countrywoman Jelena Janković in a thrilling semi final 2-1 (6-4, 3-6, 6-4). Safina, by contrast, swept aside fellow Russian and world no.2 Svetlana Kuznetsova 2-0 (6-3, 6-2) in her semi, and had the opportunity to step out of the shadow of her more acclaimed elder brother, Marat, as she competed in her first Grand Slam final. Ivanović made the better start, and was within one point of taking a 5:1 lead before Safina hit back taking the next seven points, and levelling the match at 4-4.
