Czech Senate wants to compensate victims of 1968 invasion

Prague- Victims of the 1968 Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia and their descendants are to be entitled to rightful compensation even if they had been compensated under the Communist-era legislation, Senator Jiri Liska, who drafted the legislation, said. The total sum would only be lowered by the sum that had already been paid, under the bill passed by the upper house. The legislation is now to be debated by the Chamber of Deputies. "The solution will best maintain the fair and equal approach to all victims of the occupation. I think that the victims deserve it on the 40th anniversary of the occupation," Liska (the Civic Democratic Party, ODS) said.
