After a few weeks in theatres, the quirky film has earned a very respectable $54 million US at the box office to the relief of Jonze and company who fine-tuned the project for two years, knowing the finished product would be a challenge for kids of all ages. Lauren Ambrose certainly appreciated how peculiar the film might be when she signed to be one of seven voice actors defining the Wild Things, which are hairy monsters inhabiting an isolated world conjured up by a runaway boy (Max Records).
