Lions coach has a thing for the arts By JULIE HINDS FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER An NFL coach who loves heavy metal and quotes Shakespeare? Who admits that he's crazy about art? No wonder Jim Schwartz of the Detroit Lions is getting noticed for being culturally astute. Although the vast majority of his time is devoted to football, Schwartz has a wide range of interests outside sports. He can talk about movies, music, TV, books, theater and paintings. His appreciation for those arenas comes from an admiration for entertainers and artists whose expertise is worlds apart from his. "It's stuff that I don't do, stuff that I can't do, I'm in awe of," he says. "I'm in awe of somebody that can get up and play a part, somebody that can write."
