Hinds school bus strike over; drivers to vote

Marquita Brown • mbrown13@clarionledger.com • October 24, 2009 Bus drivers in four metro-area school districts will meet this weekend to hear details of a tentative agreement reached Friday between their union and an Ohio-based bus company. The agreement came almost two days into a Hinds County bus driver strike. The drivers were asking for pay increases and two paid holidays. Starting Monday, the drivers will vote anonymously on whether to accept the most recent offer from First Student, the company that holds the transportation contracts in West Point and in Hinds, Madison and Yazoo counties. "We're very happy with the agreement," Willie Smith, president of Teamsters Local 891 said Friday, shortly after the agreement was announced.
