Chance to be a Stromness guide

A Stromness Studies Course, covering aspects of the town from architecture to wartime heritage to flora and fauna, is to be run by Orkney College from February 2010. Course director and Orkney tour guide Fran Flett Hollinrake said: "This will be a fantastic opportunity to develop tourism is Stromness, and enable local people to learn more about the area." A lecture series with local experts sharing their knowledge will be held in the Maritime Studies department and will be open to anyone. A training course will also be run for those interested in becoming a tour guide in Stromness. This will be assessed and accredited by the Scottish Tourist Guides Association and lead to a STGA Yellow Badge qualification.
