Saunders: Rockies' offseason has numerous numbers challenges

By Patrick Saunders The Denver Post This week, I suspect, the Rockies will give general manager Dan O'Dowd and manager Jim Tracy new contracts. It will be a celebratory moment, full of optimism. But soon after O'Dowd and Tracy sign on the dotted line, they'll have to confront some realities facing the team. To provide the duo with a jump start, I'm offering three pertinent numbers. .259: The Rockies won 17 games in their last at-bat in 2009, including eight walkoff wins. It made for plenty of drama, but far too many times the Rockies left runners stranded on base in the middle innings. The Rockies hit just .259 with runners in scoring position, the second- lowest mark in franchise history.
