Turfway betting down 6.3 percent

Turfway Park’s fall meet ended Thursday with a 6.3 percent drop in betting from all sources, while on-track betting fell 16.1 percent. The on-track wagering on Turfway races decreased to $2.2 million from $2.6 million a year ago. Track officials cited unemployment rates in Northern Kentucky counties of around 10 percent. The all sources wagering dropped to $39.9 million from $42.6 million last fall. Track President Bob Elliston said one positive amid the declines was a 50 percent increase in revenues, some of which go toward purses, from account wagering companies that handle bets made by phone or online.
