Isinbayeva claims stadium record at Shanghai Golden Grand Prix

Pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva cleared 4.85m to beat her stadium record by 20cm as the Russian claimed victory at the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix on Sunday. Isinbayeva then attempted to clear her world record of 5.06m by 1cm but wasn't able to get near on any of her three attempts. Poland's Anna Rogowska, who won World Championships gold in Berlin when Isinbayeva failed to clear a height, vaulted 4.60m for second position and compatriot Monika Pyrek, silver medallist in Berlin, finished third with 4.50m. On an evening when Chinese hurdler Liu Xiang made his comeback in the 110m hurdles (finishing second in 13.15sec behind Terrence Trammell) and USA's Tyson Gay ran the joint second-fastest 100m of all time in 10.69sec, notable Europeans and European performances were thin on the ground.
