The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences still hasn't elected a new president of its board of governors, but it just made some other leadership progress by deciding who'll represent its members in the directors' branch. Edward Zwick ("Blood Diamond," "Glory") will join Martha Coolidge ("Material Girls," "Lost in Yonkers") and Curtis Hanson ("L.A. Confidential," "Wonder Boys") as representatives of the academy's helmers on the board. The move follows' Zwick's defeat of Gil Cates ("I Never Sang for My Father," "Summer Wishes, Winter Dreams") in an unprecedented run-off election.
