This is not a full review but just some observations about the N97, the flagship touch-screen smart phone from Nokia which debuted here last month. The $700 phone, which Nokia is selling direct to consumers without a carrier subsidy, is a handsome device with a very enviable list of specifications. But in spending time with it, it only makes it more apparent the how successful Apple has been in making its iPhone so usable and consumer friendly. The iPhone 3GS is not the equal of the N97 in a few areas and for certain people, some of whom complain to me that I'm too pro-Apple, that matters a lot.
