Michael the maestro versus Michael the muddled

It's a battle of the Hollywood heavyweights, featuring pretty-boy gunsels versus robots and stuff blowing up It's Michael vs. Michael at the box office this weekend. In one corner: last week's champ, Michael Bay's Transformers – Revenge of the Fallen , a sequel about good robots fighting bad robots, based on a line of toys and a Saturday-morning cartoon. In the other: Michael Mann's new film, Public Enemies , based on the true story of a 1930s FBI agent (Christian Bale) who brought down the violent bank robber John Dillinger (Johnny Depp). Michael Bay (on the set of Transformers – Revenge of the Fallen) specializes in ludicrous setups and humongous explosions that are irritatingly disorienting.
