Stop & Shop, Price Chopper Recall Beef Over E. Coli Fears

By ARIELLE LEVIN BECKER The Hartford Courant Stop & Shop and Price Chopper have recalled beef products sold in Connecticut because of possible E. coli contamination. Both chains received products from JBS Swift Beef Co., a Colorado company that issued a voluntary recall of 41,280 pounds of whole muscle cut beef products on June 24, then expanded it to include another 380,000 pounds of products. The expanded recall stemmed from an investigation by federal agencies into 24 illnesses in multiple states, including 18 that appear to be associated, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service. Costco and Sam's Club stores may have also received the recalled beef, according to the USDA, but the department did not specify in which states the affected Costco and Sam's Club stores may be located....
