Vanessa Lu city hall bureau chief Filippo Marrella thinks it's time for Toronto politicians to show leadership by rolling back their pay increase. "In a time of a recession, they should do something, take their cut, and show they are doing something for the people," said Marrella, a roofer who was working on the new green roof at city hall yesterday. "They're always getting their increase. I got $1 an hour. "I'm breaking my back lifting," he said. "I don't think it's fair." Under a city policy approved in 2006, councillors are given an annual cost-of-living increase every January. This year it amounted to 2.42 per cent.
