Saulnier on Cinema: Roadtrip film, 'Away We Go,' hits too many bumps

It's got a fine cast, an able director-Sam Mendes of "American Beauty"-and a clutch of genuinely funny jokes. But although the film has some enjoyable passages, it doesn't hold together. And while the main characters are reasonably appealing, when the credits role you feel like you haven't watched a dramatic comedy so much as an exercise in sanctimony. The film stars John Krasinski ("The Office") and Maya Rudolph ("Saturday Night Live") as a financially unsteady couple in their thirties expecting their first child. When his parents (Jeff Daniels and Catherine O'Hara) announce that they're decamping to Belgium before the baby's birth, the two decide to go on a cross-country tour to find their future...
