Wings' Cleary invited to Team Canada Olympic camp

Red Wings forward Dan Cleary’s outstanding playoff performance has created the opportunity for him to compete for Canada in next year’s Winter Olympics. Cleary was on Hockey Canada’s list of 25 forwards invited to orientation camp Aug. 24-27; the group will be whittled down by, among others, Wings coach Mike Babcock, into the team that’ll compete next February in the Vancouver Winter Games. Chris Osgood – who just wrapped up a Conn Smythe worthy performance in the playoffs – was not among the five goalies invited. Earlier this week, defenseman Brian Rafalski was invited to USA Hockey’s camp. Half of Team Sweden will be culled from the Wings, and Valtteri Filppula is certain to be a member of Finland’s squad, and Pavel Datsyuk will represent Russia.
