Macon lawyer Dillard on short list to be justice

By Travis Fain - tfain@macon.com The short list of candidates for a vacancy on the Georgia Supreme Court is out, and Macon attorney Steve Dillard made the cut. Dillard, a prominent Republican and Catholic activist, is one of nine candidates forwarded to Gov. Sonny Perdue, who will choose a new judge for the state’s high court. Chief Justice Leah Ward Sears recently resigned from the court, and Perdue’s selection will sit on the court at least until an election next year to fill the position for a full six-year term. Dillard was the only Middle Georgian to make the list, which is mostly made up of metro Atlanta area judges and attorneys. “In addition to being happy for myself, I take some pride in that ... somebody from Macon is actually going to be considered,” Dillard said.
