De La Rosa looking to follow fellow hurlers

LOS ANGELES -- The two-seam sinking fastball is the weapon of choice for most Rockies pitchers. Aaron Cook and Jason Marquis have made careers with it. Jason Hammel has become one of baseball's hottest pitchers since adopting it a month or so ago. Now, left-hander Jorge De La Rosa is joining this craze, and he went to the Rockies' resident master for tips. "I started throwing it the last time I pitched, and it felt good," said De La Rosa, who held the Athletics to two runs over six innings in his last start, an 11-9 Rockies victory. "I asked Aaron Cook about it, and he showed me some things." De La Rosa is looking to use his new trick Friday night, when the Rockies meet the D-backs in the opener of a three-game series and a 10-game homestand.
