Netanyahu allies attack Barak plan to freeze settlement growth

Listen to the Article - Powered by Ron Bousso Agence France Presse OCCUPIED JERUSALEM: Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak is to propose a limited three-month freeze on Occupied West Bank settlement growth in response to increased pressure from Washington, Israeli media reported on Sunday. Barak, who plans to meet US Middle East envoy George Mitchell in New York on Monday, will propose the freeze as a compromise to the demand from Israel's closest ally for a complete halt to settlement activity, the reports said. Barak declined to confirm or deny such a plan. "The issue at hand hasn't been fully finalized yet," he said before the weekly Cabinet meeting.
