The Morning Skate: Will Pronger Change East Balance of Power?

While the Islanders used the entry draft’s top pick to select John Tavares (Jeff Z. Klein’s Times story here), division rival Philadelphia may have vaulted into the league’s upper echelon by acquiring defenseman Chris Pronger. “I think Chris Pronger is still one of the top defensemen in the league,” Flyers G.M. Paul Holmgren told reporters. “I think he makes everyone around him better. He’s a winner, he’s won a championship. He’s a tremendous character player, he works hard.
