The adage is especially accurate now. Defensemen are so vital because of the breakneck speed of the game, the transition game, and the ability to pass the puck and get an offensive rush going. "I just believe defensemen are very valuable these days," said Jim Nill, the Red Wings' vice president/assistant general manager, who'll run the Wings draft table tonight and Saturday in Montreal for the NHL entry draft.
