WILMINGTON, DE - The Pelicans used two home runs from Ernesto Mejia and a dominating pitching performance from starter Carlos Rivas to stroll past Wilmington, 5-3, in game one from Frawley Stadium on Monday night. Both starting pitchers were in control early as Rivas for the Pelicans and Ed Cegarra for Wilmington retired the first nine batters they faced. Rivas struck out five in a perfect pass through the Blue Rocks order. The birds broke through against Cegarra in the fourth. Gorkys Hernandez and Willie Cabrera provided back-to-back singles to start the inning resulting in first-and-third with nobody out.
