Posted to the web 15 August 2008 Luyanda Makapela Maputo Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka said efforts towards inequality, eradicating poverty and unemployment must be aligned to further women's development. Speaking at the International Conference on Women and Development in Maputo, Mozambique, on Friday, the Deputy President said these three issues had the greatest impact on women. "Employment is a necessary condition to win against both poverty and inequality. "We therefore need to invest in women's education and therefore their ability to enter the labour market and be economically empowered is the greatest investment any family, community and country can make," she added.
