Salem, VA - The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, dropped game one of a four game series against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans Monday night, 9-5 at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. The Avs began the game with the offensive momentum, loading the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the first, but Pelicans starter Cole Rohrbough finagled his way out of the jam unscathed. The game's first runs came in the Myrtle Beach second when Ernesto Mejia led off with a solo homer run to deep left field. Tyler Flowers followed with a double and later scored on a Concepcion Rodriguez double-play groundout.
