Celtic starts Scottish season with lackluster win

GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) -Celtic made a lackluster start to its defense of the Scottish Premier League title on Sunday with a 1-0 win over St. Mirren. Midfielder Barry Robson scored the winning goal at Parkhead in the 62nd minute, hitting a penalty kick low into the center of the goal following a foul on striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink by Will Haining. The ball hit goalkeeper Mark Howard but just bounced over the line. Haining was sent off for the foul but Celtic was still unable to get any more goals as it begun its attempt to win a fourth straight title. "The team performance wasn't as good as expected,'' Celtic manager Gordon Strachan said. "It doesn't feel like a win because we should be doing better than that.''
