Kilpatrick to waive right to prelim today BY M.L. ELRICK, BEN SCHMITT, JIM SCHAEFER AND JOE SWICKARD • FREE PRESS STAFF WRITERS • August 7, 2008 Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, wearing a gray suit, and his former chief of staff, Christine Beatty, have just arrived in Detroit's 36th District Court to begin court proceedings that were expected to be contentious and produce more text messages but are now expected to be over briefly as they waive their right to preliminary examination and go to trial. Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor Robert Moran said he had no objection. Free Press attorney Herschel Fink has just asked Judge Ronald Giles to release the text messages before sending the case to circuit court.
