Posted to the web 7 August 2008 Stephen Bwire The African political theatre sets the stage for farcical drama. On stage, we view the African chief in his entirety and absolute form. He wears a demeanour of a blood -thirsty vulture, draped in a costume of apotheosis and megalomania. The audience rivets its eyes to the stage, to watch their once celebrated characters with horror mixed with fear, untold shame and disillusionment. The atmosphere is completely tragic and monstrous. Enter Zimbabwe's chief vulture. He organises elections himself. He becomes his own referee and, as the gods go to sleep, loses the first round. He cries foul, blaming his misfortune on the injustice of the electoral officials who are said to be biased against him.
