Political Correspondent August 04, 2008 02:56 PM SACO - Democratic U.S. Sen. candidate Tom Allen today called for more investments in rural Internet access, transportation improvements and environmental cleanup as part of his new economic plan for Maine. Allen, who hopes to unseat incumbent Republican Sen. Susan Collins in the Nov. 4 election, said such investments are critical to the state's economic development. "In an increasingly competitive economy, our ability to sustain growth relies on a 21st century infrastructure to connect businesses with customers around the state, the nation and the world," said Allen, a Portland Democrat who represents the 1st Congressional District.
