Associated Press - August 3, 2008 8:53 PM ET MOSCOW (AP) - The Russian dissident whose accounts of brutality in Soviet-era gulags (GOO'-laghz) won him a Nobel Prize has died. Alexander Solzhenitsyn (sohl-zheh-NEETS'-ihn) was 89. A letter containing what were called "disrespectful remarks" about Josef Stalin landed Solzhenitsyn in a slave labor camp shortly after World War II. He went on to publish books exposing the system that enslaved millions. NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Forecasters say warm waters in the Gulf of Mexico are fueling Tropical Storm Edouard as it barrels toward land. A tropical storm warning is in effect for parts of Louisiana and a watch extends west to Texas.
