The Associated Press • July 31, 2008 MADISON — Investigators say they couldn’t find proof that Gov. Jim Doyle’s office had any improper influence in the decision to allow the sale of a nuclear power plant to an out-of-state company. Investigators say they never found e-mails or witnesses that suggested Doyle or his aides pressed the Public Service Commission to allow the sale of the plant in Kewaunee to go through. At issue was a proposal by Wisconsin Public Service Corp. and Wisconsin Power & Light Co. to sell the plant to a Virginia company. Investigators say Doyle’s campaign received $129,000 from the companies’ employees over four years. Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen closed the case one year ago without filing charges.
