Rochester Red Wings get easy win in Pawtucket

Staff reports • July 31, 2008 Designated hitter Randy Ruiz homered and hit his league-leading 33rd double as the Rochester Red Wings collected 12 hits and defeated Pawtucket 8-3 at McCoy Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The Red Wings (53-60), who lead the International League in hitting with a .272 batting average, are 15½ games behind Pawtucket (68-44) for first place in the International League North Division. But Rochester has won five of its last seven games. With the game tied 2-2 entering the fifth inning, the Red Wings took advantage of an error by former Wing Gil Velazquez to score two runs and take a 4-2 lead. Pawtucket cut the lead to 4-3 in the fifth inning, but Garrett Jones hit a two-run home run in the seventh to send Rochester ahead 6-3.
