srothschild@MiamiHerald.com The IndyCar Series released next season's schedule Wednesday and Homestead-Miami Speedway will host the finale on Oct. 11, 2009. Since 2002, Homestead had hosted the series opener in March, but it was not always an ideal time because the race sometimes overlapped with the PGA CA Championship at Doral and the Sony Ericsson in Key Biscayne. Homestead now is set to crown the champion in NASCAR and the Indy Racing League. The track hosts NASCAR's finale weekend in mid-November. Homestead has been a popular stop for many of the IndyCar drivers, as nearly a dozen call South Florida home. The 18-race IndyCar schedule now begins and ends in Florida.
