Auto Answers: Duncan Haimerl | Auto Answers Q: Regarding hybrid and electric clean cars: I have not seen any report on the effects on the economy of the cars when using air-conditioning, defrosting or heating. These three features must affect the mileage and range of these vehicles. Getting stuck in a traffic jam in the heat of summer or freezing cold of winter must severely affect the range of an all-electric car. Electric cars are considered "clean cars." Aren't we just moving the pollution to another location, i.e. the power plant? Will AAA and other services be able to "jump-start" an all-electric car that has run out of power? These cars do not have the standard 12-volt battery that you can just hook jumper cables to. I think hybrids and electrics are the way of the future, but we have many obstacles to clear before we...
