Blame mayoral mess on charismatic CEOs BY TOM WALSH • FREE PRESS COLUMNIST • July 26, 2008 Now we have the mayor of Detroit in a confrontation with a sheriff's deputy, purportedly hurling a string of f-bombs and other invective at him, resulting in the mayor being ordered to put up a $7,500 bond and told he can't leave town without a court hearing. And that's on top of all the text messages, the lies under oath, the perjury charges. How did it all come to this for Kwame Kilpatrick? Perhaps we should blame it on Lee Iacocca. Or on CEOs Jack Welch, Martha Stewart or Enron's Jeff Skilling. Blame it on our infatuation with the cult of the charismatic CEO and ultimately on the infatuation of the charismatic CEO with himself.
