LITTLE LEAGUE: Silver Creek 9-10 softball slides past South Bend

By GREG MENGELT sports@newsandtribune.com JEFFERSONVILLE — Less than 24 hours after bombing its first opponent in the state finals tournament, Silver Creek squeaked by in its second contest, 2-1 over South Bend East Side on Friday. Tied at 1-1 in the fifth inning, Taylor Williams hit a one-out triple past the right fielder, then scored on a wild pitch to score the go-ahead run. Williams was called safe because South Bend catcher Zoe Lindsley dropped the ball, but home plate umpire Scott Whitlock confirmed afterward that Williams was under the tag, anyway.
