Michigan Increases Job Training

ecrossing's public channel ecrossing.public With thousands of Michigan workers being laid off, Governor Jennifer Granholm is moving to increase the state’s “No Worker Left Behind Program”. Started last year, with over 31,000 under or unemployed, the program provides training in other (growing) fields. Governor Granholm is looking to add $6 million for a Green Jobs Initiative. In a state that relies so heavily on the automotive industry, alternative energy work represents the way of the future. Michigan’s unemployment rate is at 8.5%, the highest in the country, and the No Worker Left Behind Program is pushing to combat that number. $177 million in state and Federal money is being put into the labor training initiative.
