'Free U.S. from oil dependency'

Editor's note: The writer is a resident of Rye. By Steven Borne Please believe us, we really need one more oil patch to make us richer ... President Bush wants Congress, especially the Democrats, to open the ANWR and other protected U.S. areas to drilling "to increase supply to take the pressure of gas prices" before the August congressional break. Considering what the conservatives have gotten away with over the last seven years, why not grant their supporters one more oil patch to play in. If Americans are not marching in the streets about the invasion of Iraq, the mismanagement of Afghanistan, an incompetent, but conservatively loyal federal government, political firings of district attorneys, stripping Americans of our freedoms, torturing captives and a disregard for the Constitution, how upset will America get for being...
