Independent voter rolls climb; other parties lose members

MOORE • FLORIDA TODAY • July 23, 2008 During the past eight years, the percentage of registered voters in Brevard County who have opted against signing up as a Republican or Democrat has grown from 15.66 percent to 18.71 percent. The move, according to statistics compiled by the Brevard County Supervisor of Elections Office, marks one of the significant changes in local voter data. Since the 2000 presidential election: The percentage of registered Republicans fell from 46.33 percent of registered voters to 44.44 percent. The percentage of registered Democrats fell from 38.01 percent of registered voters to 36.85 percent. Duwayne Lundgren, Brevard County's assistant supervisor for election services, also said he has noticed that more Democrats have registered in recent months than Republicans. Referring to those...
