Consumers can now drop off their fluorescent bulbs for recycling at JAY-K Lumber, a store official said. Dan Murphy, a purchasing agent for JAY-K, said the store contacted the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority and made arrangements to bring the used bulbs to the facility, where the bulbs will be properly recycled. “We've gotten phone calls about what people can do with their compact fluorescent light bulbs,” Murphy said. “They've been on the market for a while and it's time to replace them, and nobody knew what to do with them ….” In July, the store placed a couple of buckets near the front door and began collecting the old bulbs, Murphy said.
