(AP) - A 10-month-old Topeka boy is unharmed and back with his family after being taken from his mother at their home and left at a house 2 miles away. Topeka police say 23-year-old Carlando Jackson kidnapped the infant around 3:40 p.m. Thursday after battering the child's mother. Police said Jackson isn't legally or biologically related to the baby but is known to the mother. Police Capt. Jerry Stanley said Jackson drove off in a vehicle, but abandoned the car and continued on foot with the baby. Police said temperatures were in the mid-90s while the man carried the child more than a mile. The suspect left the child at the home as police closed in and has not been apprehended.
