The Sports Network National League All-Star teammates and fellow 12-game winners Aaron Cook and Edinson Volquez will meet on the mound when the Colorado Rockies visit Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park tonight for the first of three weekend games with the host Reds. Colorado's Cook erased a brief pre-break skid in his last outing, scattering five hits and allowing three runs over seven innings in an 11-3 defeat of the Pittsburgh Pirates Sunday at Coors Field. The 29-year-old native of Fort Campbell, Ky. -- a Cincinnati suburb -- was 10-3 after a defeat of the Chicago White Sox on June 15 before stumbling to three losses and a no-decision in five starts prior to the Midsummer Classic. He is 1-0 with a 7.11 earned run average in five career appearances (4 starts) against the Reds, allowing 32 hits and 15 runs in 19 innings.... [read full story]
