NGO Boss Arrested

Posted to the web 25 July 2008 Harare POLICE have arrested a regional manager with a local non-governmental organisation, Civic Trust, for allegedly peddling malicious falsehoods to the international media and hostile nations to Zimbabwe in a bid to portray the country as lawless. Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Oliver Mandipaka yesterday said Peter Muchengeti was arrested in Harare over a document he authored making various claims that Zanu-PF was perpetrating violence in the Midlands Province. He said police recovered diskettes, one recorder with two microphones and cassettes when they arrested Muchengeti. Supt Mandipaka said Muchengeti was expected to appear in court soon on charges of breaching the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
