By MARY TURNER • July 25, 2008 Wake up, New Jersey: While we are fighting to prevent oil drilling off our beaches, there is another alarming threat to our ocean in the form of LNG — liquefied natural gas. Three industrial port facilities for LNG, which is a polluting, climate-changing foreign fossil fuel, are proposed for sites off the New Jersey-New York coastline. They are: — "Insanity Island." A private investment group with no prior experience with offshore LNG operations or offshore construction, The Atlantic Sea Island Group, proposes to build "Safe Harbor Energy." It would be a massive man-made island the size of 11 Giants football stadiums housing an LNG terminal and industrial complex 13 miles off Long Beach, N.Y., and 19 miles from Sea Bright. — "Exxon's Floater."
