COLOMBO (AFP) - Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene elected to bat after winning the toss against India in the rain-hit opening Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground here on Wednesday. No play was possible before tea due to rain. Sri Lankan spinner Ajantha Mendis made his Test debut. He was his side's match-winner with a six-wicket haul against India in the Asia Cup final in Karachi early this month.
