Great Bear Golf Course vows to pay $25,701 in back taxes

STROUDSBURG — Great Bear Golf Course plans to pay two years of back property taxes today, heading off the possibility the course could be sold at a September tax sale. The 18-hole course, clubhouse and restaurant — encompassing 185 acres within Great Bear Estates home development in Middle Smithfield Township — is scheduled for tax sale Sept. 10, Monroe County Tax Claim Bureau Director Greg Christine confirmed Tuesday. Keystone Hollow Corporation, the golf course owner, owes $25,701 in taxes to the county and township, according to county tax records. The amount represents taxes and penalties for 2006 and 2007. "All the taxes will be paid in full tomorrow as it relates to Great Bear Country Club," Great Bear spokesman Kevin Jones said Tuesday afternoon. He declined further comment. W.
