Puerto Rican fugitive nabbed in Lehigh Acres allegedly led gang

A fugitive arrested this week in Lehigh Acres is considered a leader of a gang in Puerto Rico that sold drugs and intimidated public housing project residents where it operated. Jose Negron-Cardona, 32, captured without a fight Tuesday in a house, belonged to Los Dementes, a gang that operated in Puerto Rico before indictments and arrests began to break it up last fall, according to authorities. The name translates as "The Insane." "He was lying on a bed. No guns or drugs were found," said Rick Jessup, spokesman for the Fort Myers Fugitive Task Force, which made the arrest at the request of the U.S. Marshal's office in Puerto Rico.
